Good female buddy comedies are hard to come by, so when we find one we like, we latch on. We love to see great female friendships portrayed with humor on the big screen. Melissa McCarthy has been steadily doing her part to try to revive the genre over the past few years, by appearing in films like The Heat and Bridesmaids. The success of her work perhaps inspired this week’s latest release – Hot Pursuit – starring Reese Witherspoon as an uptight cop and Sofia Vergara as the fiery widow of a drug dealer whom she’s tasked with protecting. Allow us to revisit some of our other favorite female buddy comedies.
The movie reaffirmed what we’ve all known for years: people want to see funny ladies on screen.
2. The Heat
Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock teamed up for this one and the unlikely pairing brought the film box office success. Currently, a spin-off movie is in the works.
3. Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion
We love these besties, even if they didn’t invent Post-it notes.
4. Pitch Perfect
The friends that sing together, stay together. We can’t wait for Pitch Perfect 2.
5. Thelma & Louise
A true classic, even if the ending isn’t exactly comedic.
6. Baby Mama
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler in a buddy comedy is basically the genre at its peak.
Nothing bonds you to your pals like a raucous bachelorette party.
8. Bride Wars
Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson are not so buddy-buddy as they plan rival weddings, but in the end true friendship prevails.
