We'll start with some of the best...

Thirty, flirty and thriving! Christa B. Allen (pre-Revenge) played a spot-on 13-year-old version of Jennifer Garner in this wish-fulfillment romantic comedy. Hard to believe they weren’t actually related!

Mackenzie Foy, Jessica Chastain - Interstellar

Paramount Pictures/Paramount Pictures
Everyone is talking about the plot holes and inconsistencies in Interstellar. But at least there was good casting! Mackenzie Foy played Matthew McConaughey’s daughter Murph, who was then played in adulthood by Jessica Chastain. Definitely a believable choice.

Zachary Quinto, Leonard Nimoy - Star Tre

Paramount Pictures
It’s uncanny how much Zachary Quinto looks like a younger Leonard Nimoy. Once the Spock eyebrows are in place, it's hard to picture a better choice for the role.

Saoirse Ronan, Romola Garai, Vanessa Redgrave - Atonement
Saoirse Ronan, Romola Garai, Vanessa Redgrave - Atonement
Focus Features
This resemblance was probably due mostly in part to the similar haircut. (Bobs apparently never go out of style). But each actress’ portrayal of Briony Tallis was so cohesive and convincing we can’t help but see a likeness.

Joseph Gordon Levitt, Bruce Willis - Looper

Put Joseph Gordon Levitt and Bruce Willis side by side? No resemblance. Add a little movie makeup magic, and they’re practically twins! All credit for this goes to Looper’s makeup/prosthetics team for transforming JGL into a Bruce Willis doppelganger.

Luke Bracey, James Marsden - The Best of Me

And now for some of the worst...

We’re still scratching our heads over this one. Luke Bracey played a teenage version of James Marsden in The Best of Me. 1) They look nothing alike. 2) They also look practically the same age!

In what universe would a fine specimen like Zac Efron grow up to look like Matthew Perry? It remains one of the biggest mysteries of 17 Again, right behind the whole body-swapping thing.

First Look Pictures via Everett Collection
Nope. We don’t see it. Maybe in this picture the resemblance is passable, but there's still no way we believe Shia LaBeouf and Robert Downey Jr. could ever be versions of the same person.
9
Ryan Gosling, James Garner - The Notebook

New Line Cinema via Everett Collection
Maybe it’s just that we can’t picture Ryan Gosling ever getting old. Whatever the reason, it’s hard to see the similarities between Gosling and James Garner in The Notebook. They even had different colored eyes! Gosling had to wear brown contacts to at least attempt some consistency.

20th Century Fox Film via Everett Collection
Ok so Michael Fassbender can do a killer Ian McKellen impression, but looks-wise? They couldn’t be more different. Still, we can't be mad at the casting, because Fassbender makes an awesome young Magneto.
