In an apparent cost-cutting move, Tribune Co. has pulled the plug on one-year-old Box Office Direct, a box-office tracking service that it hoped would challenge ACNielsen EDI, which operates a near monopoly in the field. The online media magazine Inside, which reported the shut-down Wednesday, said that Box Office Direct’s staff, including President Chris Aronson, had been laid off.
