Brie Larson Is Frontrunner To Play Captain Marvel, One Of Marvel’s Most Powerful Females

Brie Larson

Marvel has set their sites on Brie Larson to play Captain Marvel in a standalone film. The franchise is reportedly in talks with the actress, who recently won an Oscar for her emotional role in Room.

According to a report in Variety, Larson is Marvel’s first choice for the role, and while no deal has been confirmed, she’s leaning towards accepting the part. If cast, Larson will play Carol Danvers, an airport pilot whose DNA is accidentally spliced with an alien. The alien DNA gives her the ability to fly and project energy, as well as super strength.

The film is still in its beginning stages, which could mean that Marvel is lining up an actress early to introduce the character in an upcoming film prior to Captain Marvel’s release. The flick has yet to find a director, but Kevin Feige has signed on as producer, and Inside Out’s Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman are writing the script.

Larson has had a busy year and will appear next in Kong: Skull Island and The Glass Castle, which she is currently filming.
