‘Short Term 12’ Breakout Star Brie Larson in Talks for ‘The Gambler’

According to DeadlineBrie Larson is in negotiations to star in the upcoming remake of The Gambler with Mark Wahlberg. The original 1974 flick was based on a novel by Fyodor Dostoyevsky and tells the story of a literary professor that suffers from a crippling gambling addiction. The original film garnered James Caan a Golden Globe nod for his performance. Brie Larson has been a surefire bet for Hollywood as of late, starring in a number of projects that display her versatility as an actress. She received raves for her role as a social worker in Short Term 12, and has appeared in comedies like 21 Jump street and Don Jon. She even visited Greendale Community College for a season 4 episode of Community.

Along with Larson, Jessica Lange is also being considered for a role in the film. Lange is already doling out a weekly dose of scares on her FX drama series American Horror Story. The legendary actress will help add even more acting prowess to a film that seems to be culling performers from all over the cinematic landscape.
