A few weeks ago, a full trailer released for Kubo and the Two Strings, the new Laika Studios stop-motion animation movie and it looks like an epic adventure. The movie, which hits theaters August 19th, 2016 is produced by Laika, distributed by Focus Features and stars Charlize Theron, Ralph Fiennes, Rooney Mara, George Takei and Matthew McConaughey. The story is set in ancient Japan, where a young boy named Kubo cares for his mother in a village. A spirit from the past turns Kubo’s life upside down by re-igniting an age-old vendetta. This causes all sorts of havoc as gods and monsters chase Kubo who, in order to survive, must locate a magical suit of armor once worn by his late father, a legendary Samurai warrior.
We are major Laika Studios fans and the coolest part of this trailer is that it included a link to buy tickets to see the movie in August (which we’ve never seen done this far in advance). There was also a lot of amazing collectible items available to buy with the ticket as well. We personally support the collection Laika stuff and love behind-the-scenes movie making insights. Typically we know many have to search far and wide for any props or movie memorability, but it’s really interesting to see all the Kubo collectible items in one place ranging from journals and hoodies to a full maquette used in the film (unfortunately it was already sold out for $10,000). Even if you don’t buy anything, you can enter a sweepstakes to visit Laika Studios in Oregon. It almost seems like an a-la-carte LootCrate with items that people actually want.
