Camp X-Ray director had to make sure Twilight books didn’t feature in scenes

Moviemaker Peter Sattler had to make sure his Guantanamo Bay prison drama Camp X-Ray wasn’t too authentic – because he didn’t want his actors reading Arabic versions of the Twilight series in scenes featuring Kristen Stewart. The director cast the actress as an army soldier in the film and quickly realised he had to make sure there were no Twilight books on the shelves in scenes with the star of the vampire franchise.
He explains, “In the movie, we talk about these Harry Potter books and how the detainees are obsessed with them. It’s really true. They are hugely popular down there and I have photos of a rack full of Arabic versions of Harry Potter.
“I also have photos of Arabic versions of the Twilight series. Those books are in Guantanamo Bay, but obviously we couldn’t use them in the film because it would take the audience out of it.”
