We all know the story of ‘Star Wars’ Luke, Han, Chewie and Leia save the galaxy by using a magical power known as the force (or at least that’s the story summed up in one sentence).
But why? The story of Star Wars has so many more characters that are involved with the defeat of the Empire, so why do we only follow a small few? That’s what Disney wants to talk about with their spinoff films “A Star Wars Story”, starting with ‘Rogue One’. Director Gareth Edwards took what was said in the opening crawl and expanded on it.
During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire’s ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet.
Such a small snippet of text, but there’s a ton to be expanded on. In the above interview, Felicity Jones talks about being excited to expand on the Star Wars universe, Mads Mikkelsen tells us how Gareth brought the film to a smaller size despite being a Star Wars film, Diego Luna says how the characters are everyday people willing to risk it all for freedom, Ben Mendelsohn discusses his character’s obsession with the Death Star, Alan Tudyk explains why his character K-2SO is the way he is, and Director Gareth Edwards talks about the true lesson of “Star Wars”.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is finally in theaters tomorrow, December 16, 2016.
