Latin icon Celia Cruz has been posthumously honoured with an induction into the Walk of Legends at New York’s Apollo Theater. The life of the legendary salsa singer was celebrated at a special concert to mark the accolade on Saturday (22Mar14), which doubled up as the 50th anniversary of Cruz’s debut at the historic venue.
The event featured tribute performances from artists including Dominican musician Jose ‘El canario’ Alberto, and was part of a concert series commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Harlem theatre.
Cruz died of cancer in 2003.
