Last night during the College Football Championship game, football fans were treated with the extended teaser for ‘Cars 3’.
In the first Cars, Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) was the best but after an injury had to take a step back so he could learn how to really drive. The second in the franchise, Cars 2 had Lightning go after an international cup, with Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) in a weird spy spinoff. In the third film, the Cars are going back to their roots, or at least that’s what it seems from the teasers. Lightning has been racing for years, and with time comes better cars. This year a rookie car Jackson Storm (Armie Hammer) has been killing it on the track, and an old car like Lightning can’t keep up. Lightning takes a step back to train with the legendary Hudson Hornet to hopefully once again, be the best.
This third teaser has some pretty tense Rocky IV moments (older champ car/person has to train in old conditions so he can face a younger faster car/person trains at high-tech tech facility), but let’s be honest, it’s Disney/Pixar, the teasers seem tenser than the films before, and the Cars franchise is already well established.
Cars 3 will hit the tracks (and theaters) on June 16, 2017.
