I love the original Child’s Play, but nowadays that film feels very dated.
There was also like 12 different Chucky films so it’s about time that Chucky got a Millenial redo. Nowadays all of the kid’s toys have an app so they can do more and interact more with the kids. Kaslan, the fictional company, knows that and while they’ve developed a ton of products already, from drones to speakers to climate control, and they need to expand. They decide to go into dolls, specifically a Buddi doll. He is connected to your smart products and can even control them. What could go wrong?
Fast forward to the story. Andy Barclay (Gabriel Bateman) is new to town and has trouble making friends, so his mom Karen (Audrey Plaza) gets him a Buddi doll. Then things start going bad. All sorts of deaths happen, including mulcher, car control, and more. Of course, no one believes little Andy when he says his doll is a murderer.
We barely get to hear from the doll, but once it was announced that Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill is doing the voice, I was sold. I also like the update of Chucky using smart products.
‘Child’s Play’ releases on June 21, 2019.
