Cinderella enchants U.K. box office

Disney’s new live-action version of Cinderella has proved a dream come true at the U.K. box office after debuting at number one on its opening weekend (27-29Mar15). The film, which stars Downton Abbey actress Lily James in the title role, brought in $6.1 million (£3.8 million) in ticket sales, seeing off competition from last weekend’s (20-22Mar15) animated chart-topper Home, which sank to second with earnings of $4.2 million (£2.6 million).
Another kids’ favourite, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, landed in third with $3.7 million (£2.3 million), ahead of Will Ferrell’s controversial new comedy Get Hard which opened in fourth place with $2.2 million (£1.4 million) and Insurgent, the second film in the Divergent franchise, at five with $2.1 million (£1.3 million).
