Cruz to Star in ‘Pirates 4’?

Penelope Cruz is reportedly close to joining Johnny Depp in the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

There’s no word yet on who the Oscar-winning actress would play, but with Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom bowing out of the blockbuster franchise (along with the recently departed Mackenzie Crook), Cruz would be a welcome addition to the cast.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will be helmed by Rob Marshall (replacing Gore Verbinski), who recently directed Cruz in Nine, for which she is a Best Supporting Actress nominee at next month’s Academy Awards. Pirates 4 is set for a May 20, 2011, release.
