David Fincher Talks ‘20,000 Leagues’ In 3D And More

David FincerCollider recently sat down with David Fincher for an extensive talk about the The Social Network, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and more of his upcoming projects. Judging from the questions asked you would think he thought he was talking to God himself, but despite the prattle of the interviewer we managed to learn a few things about what’s going on with Fincher.

The first big reveal is that he actually has a reason for the infamously high amount of torturous takes he forces his actors to go through (which many admit to rather enjoy; those masochistic freaks – who likes to work MORE?) The reason? So he can get the exact performance he wants. All those angles requires a lot of takes, obviously and since he would rather have good performances over a fancy crane on set gathering dust, he forgoes the extravagant gadgets that plague movie sets. An Oscar nominated filmmaker that cares about his actors performances and is budget-conscious? SHOCKING.

We also learned about his next projects after he finishes The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Rendezvous with Rama has been in the rumor mill for a while now and Fincher admits that he wants Morgan Freeman for the role that will hopefully have “kids buying telescopes instead of action figures.” He also confirmed that if he does do 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea it will be in 3D and had this magnificent insight when it comes to the extra dimension: “I think it’s cool…when it’s done right.” It probably took him twenty three tries to get that wording right.
