Del Toro Confirms Perlman’s Role In ‘Mountains Of Madness’

ALT TEXTGuillermo Del Toro just confirmed some exciting rumors for his upcoming scare-the-crap-out-of-you flick, At the Mountains of Madness. Ron Perlman, if available, will join the cast.

In an interview with MTV, del Toro spoke of his excitement and admiration for Perlman.

“All I can tell you is if Ron Perlman is free, he will be in,” del Toro said. “I wrote a part for him. He read it and if everything falls in place, Ron Perlman has a role in it written specifically for him.”

Hear that? That’s literature nerds (like myself) screaming everywhere. For those who don’t know, At the Mountains of Madness is based on an H.P. Lovecraft horror novella of the same name. It tells the story of a professor who leads a scientific expedition into Antarctica where they discover some freaky deaky mountains. Then, well, it’s a horror story so you know, things get scary (what I’m saying is read the book).

Del Toro is pretty pumped up about Perlman’s potential character. “Ron plays Larson, the sort of dog guy, the guy that cares for the dogs and the sled — the part of the expedition that is dog sleds,” he said. “It’s a fantastic character. I really love him. He’s sort of a pragmatic guy, doesn’t care about science or the mythology or the cosmology. He just is a hard-boiled Nordic man, and it is written specifically for him.”

Rumors fluttered around earlier this month as to who would play the leadTom Cruise or James McAvoy — but there’s no word yet on production details, filming locations, etc. Regardless, one thing is for sure: del Toro is excited to scare the bejeezus out of us all.
