Del Toro’s ‘Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark’ Gets a Release Date

Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, Guillermo Del Toro‘s upcoming remake of the made-for-TV movie that originally aired on ABC in 1973, has just got a release date: January 21, 2011.

Del Toro penned the remake, about a young girl (Bailee Madison) who accidentally unleashes an evil force when she moves in to the spooky old mansion that her father (Guy Pearce) is renovating with his girlfriend (Katie Holmes).

The film’s future was uncertain when Disney shut down Miramax last year, but the studio has reportedly decided to make the movie in-house and release it as an R-rated horror under the Miramax banner.
