Dervis | 2000
In the Ottoman Empire, during the early 1900s, Ahmed Nurudin is a dervish--a Koranic teacher. He lives in a world of his own, mapped out with eternal truths and convictions codified and legitimised by the Koran. Although out of touch with the preoccupations and everyday life of his fellow citizens, he believes he can guide them. But one day, his younger brother is arrested for no reason. He tries to intervene, but realizes that his position and social prestige will not sway the arbitrary judgment of those in power. His brother is condemned. From this moment on, Nurudin wavers in his convictions. Suddenly filled with hate and a desire for vengeance, he is forced to take action.
