Diggers | 1984
Documentarian Roman J. Foster tells the amazing story of the black Caribbean 'diggers' who assisted with the construction of the Panama Canal at the dawn of the 20th century. Using historical footage, Foster examines the diggers' lives and their backbreaking work, which was critical to the canal's completion in 1914. He also interviews some of the few surviving diggers, who faced racial discrimination, labor abuses and incredibly dangerous working conditions.
