Were you a huge fan of Disney-Pixar’s 2006 Cars, but felt it could have been less polished? Did you love the talking transportation-themed characters but felt they could have been voiced by actors less distinguished than Owen Wilson and Larry the Cable Guy?
Well than today is your lucky day. DisneyToon Studios — the direct-to-video division of Walt Disney Studios responsible for such classics as Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch and Cinderella III: A Twist in Time — today announced a new CG animated Cars spin-off, Planes, coming to home video on Blu-ray and DVD Spring 2013.
Thankfully Pixar Animation, the studio that has earned twenty-four Academy Awards and made over $6.3 billion worldwide, is in no way involved in the production of Planes.

BURBANK, Calif. – February 17, 2011 – The sky’s the limit as DisneyToon Studios proudly announces PLANES, a spectacular, full-length CG-animated comedy action adventure movie for everyone set high above the world of CARS. PLANES will introduce an entirely original and hilarious crew of daredevils from every corner of the globe and draws inspiration from the immensely popular Disney•Pixar’s CARS world. PLANES will arrive on Blu-ray and DVD in Spring 2013.
