Downton Abbey has been crowned number one at the North American box office on its opening weekend (September 20-22, 2019).

The movie adaptation of the popular TV series has hauled in an impressive $31 million to take the top spot, breaking opening weekend records for studio Focus Features.

“Audiences were clearly ready to come back to Downton and visit the Crawleys and all the familiar faces upstairs and downstairs,” Lisa Bunnell, Focus Features president of distribution, says. “At its core, it’s a story about family and audiences, both original fans and newcomers, are uplifted by that laughter and joy of the film.”

Meanwhile, Brad Pitt’s Ad Astra comes in at number two with $19.2 million and edges out Sylvester Stallone’s Rambo: Last Blood, which has earned $19 million.

It: Chapter Two and Hustlers round out the top five.
