Elizabeth Banks as a crazy, drunk, and alcoholic sister? Uh, yes please!
The actress — famous for her roles in Spider-Man, Zack and Miri Make a Porno, a couple television stints in 30 Rock and Scrubs, plus a whole bunch of other stuff too long to list here — is set to star in Welcome to People, written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Jody Lambert.
The film — also starring Chis Pine — is a family drama that follows a twentysomething-year-old man who returns home after the death of his father. He’s supposed to deliver $150,000 cash to his sister (Banks) — that he didn’t know he had — and her 12-year-old son with major anger problems. While not wanting to part with the money, the man still reaches out to his new-found family members, but doesn’t tell them who he is.
So, sounds like this role will be a little different than acting like a sex-crazed lunatic in The 40-Year-Old Virgin, but I have no doubt that she’ll handle it fine. Despite being well-known for comedy, she’s quite a versatile actress and has handled dramatic roles well in the past (specifically in W.). And it seems like, with her new film The Next Three Days opening next week, she is taking a more dramatic direction in her career. But hopefully, she doesn’t completely abandon comedy — and continues to “do-it-herself,” if you know what I mean.
