Alfred Wegener's idea that all the continents were once all connected was discussed extensively by many scientists and researchers of the 1900s. Despite the threat of a world war, Germans decide to put together an expedition to look for evidence of Wegener's theory. The journey to Svalbard and led by a German geologist, Friedrich, and his assistant Leni. Also onboard are two prominent researchers, two British and one Swedish - Gustav de Geer - and the ship's Norwegian captain and Russian crew. When Britain and France declare war on Germany, everyone on board the boat falls into the middle of a global power struggle. Although they all think that politics does not affect the research it makes everyone choose sides, even the neutral Swedes.
