Esperanza Spalding creating album in 77 hours

Jazz singer Esperanza Spalding has embarked on a mission to create a new concept album from start to finish in just 77 hours.
The 32-year-old star kicked off her ambitious venture on Tuesday morning (12Sep17), when she began livestreaming the process for Exposure on Facebook, just moments after announcing the news to fans.
“Over just three days, we’re attempting to concept, write, record, and produce an album of ten songs,” she posted. “Entering the studio with nothing prepared. Testing the theory that creations are at their most powerful the moment they’re released.”
Esperanza isn’t going it alone – she will be collaborating with fellow artists Lalah Hathaway, Andrew Bird, and Robert Glasper.
The musician explains she set herself the task of completing the whole album in 77 hours because of the significance of the number seven in different cultures.
“In the Bible, 7 is the number of completion. The world was created in 7 days,” she shared on Twitter. “7 has always had a mystical power in not just our cannon, but in so many cultures. That’s why there are 77 hours in Exposure.”
Spalding also plans to release only a limited number of the special album: “That’s why there are only 7,777 copies being sold,” she continued. “Because this is about what can be created in a short span of time.
“Presuming we’re made in gods’ image, and they could create a whole world in 7 days, I sure as hell should be able to make an album in 77 hrs (sic)”.
