Exclusive ‘Big Miracle’ Interviews: Drew Barrymore, John Krasinski, Kristen Bell and More

Whatever our differences, whatever it is that divides us, there’s one thing upon which we all can agree: Everybody loves whales. Unlike, say, those polarizing dolphins, whose surprisingly malicious tendencies have sparked many a fiery debate (not that you would find any hint of it in that pro-dolphin propaganda flick Dolphin Tale), whales inspire an affection that is profound and universal, transcending political and cultural boundaries. Even the Japanese, in their own kooky, misguided way, love whales.

It’s high time, then, that we had a movie that acknowledges and celebrates that love. Big Miracle, the new inspirational drama from director Ken Kwapis, relates the true story of three gray whales who became trapped under the ice off the coast of Alaska in 1988 and the unprecedented rescue operation mounted on their behalf, uniting people from all walks of life. The film stars Drew Barrymore (in the role she was born to play), John Krasinski, Kristen Bell, Ted Danson, and Dermot Mulroney. The real stars, of course, are those majestic, indomitable whales. Unfortunately, they were unavailable for interview, so we’ll have to make due with Barrymore, Krasinski, Bell, Danson, and Mulroney.
