No filmmaker is more committed to heeding his muse, regardless of its commercial prospects, than Steven Soderbergh. The inspiration for this latest project came late one night while he was watching female MMA star Gina Carano ply her brutal trade on television. Transfixed by the fighter’s ferocity and grace, he endeavored to build a movie around her, and the action-thriller Haywire was born. The film, which casts Carano as a special-ops agent who exacts vengeance after a double-cross, is constructed as a stylish showcase for its star’s rare blend of beauty and athleticism.
Haywire opens everywhere this Friday, January 20, 2012.
