Frozen 2 ices out box office competition with record-setting take

Frozen 2 has broken Thanksgiving records at the North American box office after scoring the biggest holiday take in history.

The movie, featuring the voices of Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, and Josh Gad, grossed a bumper $123.7 million from Wednesday (November 27, 2019) to Sunday (December 1, 2019), beating the $109.9 million record previously set by The Hunger Games: Catching Fire over the same five-day holiday period in 2013.

It also makes Frozen 2 the best-performing animated Disney film over Thanksgiving, stealing the title from its predecessor, Frozen, which grossed $93.7 million over the same five-day holiday period six years ago.

Meanwhile, Rian Johnson’s star-studded Knives Out thriller, featuring Daniel Craig, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Chris Evans, was another popular pick among movie-goers, surpassing expectations to bank $27 million and debut in second place.

Ford v Ferrari, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, and Queen & Slim round out the new top five.
