‘Garbage Pail Kids’ Remake in the Works

20264468.jpgHollywood’s ongoing fascination with revisiting its cinematic past is well-documented, but one film we never thought would be remade is The Garbage Pail Kids Movie, the low-budget 1987 comedy that tried — vainly — to capitalize on the popular series of irreverent trading cards. It’s not as if the film is some kind of overlooked cinematic treasure with an ardent cult following. A triple Razzie nominee, it represented one of the rare instances in which critics and audiences greeted a release with equal vitriol — a phenomenon known as “perfect hate.”

Such words will likely earn little heed from Michael Eisner. The former Disney mogul is getting set to bring the Garbage Pail Kids back to the big screen, Deadline.com reports, with a deal inked to “will finance and produce the development of a feature film” based on the Topps franchise. A fellow named PES, presumably a McG protege, is slated to make his directorial debut with the film, working from a script by Michael Vukadinovich. We suspect the Golden Raspberry Foundation will be following the progress of this project quite closely.
