Voice acting always seemed easy to me. Go to a booth in sweat pants, say some lines, get a big paycheck. As it turns out there’s a bit more to it than that. Understanding your character and their feelings and why they feel like that is imperative to give your voice to them.
That’s how it is for the actors in ‘Captain Underpants: The First Movie’. The source material is already loved by children, and while the cast may not have grown up with the books, they still want to do it and the fans justice by giving the voice to the characters they’ve heard in their heads for so long. In the above interview, go behind the voices and into the recording booth with Kevin Hart, Ed Helms, Thomas Middleditch, and Nick Kroll tell us how familiar they were with the books and how they found their voices for their characters, as well as how much author Dav Pilkey thought of the work these voice actors did.
‘Captain Underpants: The First Movie’ releases June 2, 2017.
