Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a Mexican celebration that takes place from October 31 till November 2 and it’s a celebration for families who have lost loved ones. The holiday is a bright and colorful one and Disney/Pixar wants to showcase it in their film ‘Coco’.
The film follows a young boy named Miguel right at the beginning of the holiday. He feels different from his family and wants to follow in his great grandfather’s footsteps and become a musician. He makes a wish and with some Disney magic he is transported to the land of the dead but must return to the land of the living by sunrise or he will be stuck there forever. Miguel meets his deceased relatives where they help him back to the living and more importantly, to discover his passion.
Judging from the trailer the film looks beautiful and is doing incredibly well in Mexico (where it has been out for 2 weeks). Critics are hailing it as a return to greatness for Pixar, which is high praise.
