Edwin Hawkins, the gospel star who enjoyed success with the crossover hit Oh Happy Day, has died, aged 74.
Hawkins lost his battle with pancreatic cancer at his home in California on Monday (15Jan18).
His 1969 gospel tune Oh Happy Day became an international hit and picked up a Grammy Award for Best Soul Gospel Performance.
His Edwin Hawkins Singers also backed Melanie on her top 10 hit Lay Down (Candles in the Rain).
