Halle Berry has apologized and admitted she “made a mistake” after facing backlash following her admission that she was considering taking on the role of a transgender man for her next project.
The Monster’s Ball actress originally revealed she was excited about the potential new job in an Instagram Live with fans over the weekend (July 4-5, 2020), as she said: “(The role is) a character where the woman is a trans character, so she’s a woman that transitioned into a man. She’s a character in a project I love that I might be doing.”
However, her admission led to a huge backlash from the transgender community, which was fuelled by her misgendering the character on Instagram, as she mused: “Who this woman was is so interesting to me, and that will probably be my next project.”
Following the reaction to her Instagram Live session, Halle returned to the social media site on Monday to issue an apology.
