Harrison FordIt is a powerful dream for many young boys to become an adult who ends up in the Baseball Hall of Fame. I suppose that’s a prominent dream for a handful of old men, too. Of course, the harsh truth is that not everyone can have whatever they wish for. So, many people who want to become legends in the great American pasttime will not be able to do so. But, if Harrison Ford wants to, he can.

Ford has been offered the role of Branch Rickey, the Brooklyn Dodgers’ Hall of Famer manager, in the developing Jackie Robinson biopic 42, to be directed by Brian Helgeland (Payback, A Knight’s Tale). Rickey made history by signing Robinson to be the first black player in the history of the Major League Baseball organization. 42 has been in development for quite some time. Since its inception, a few big names have been tossed around in concordance with the portrayal of Branch Rickey. Most recently, Jack Nicholson was suggested as a plausible cast member. But as it stands, the role is Ford’s to take.

So will he take it? Only time will tell. We know that Ford has also been mentioned in regards to the developing Ender’s Game adaptation. But we can affirm that we think he’d be a fine choice for the staunch, accomplished, deeply religious and greatly progressive Rickey.
