‘Harry Potter’ Blu-Ray DVD Will Be In 3D

ALT TEXT Looks like Harry Potter is going to pop out of your television.

According to Variety, Warner Brothers’ home entertainment division has hired Prime Focus to convert two back titles in the Harry Potter series for 3D Blu-Ray: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. And, despite having to cancel the process for the theatrical release, both upcoming Deathly Hallows films will be converted to 3D for their DVD release.

And Prime Focus won’t do all the cutting and converting without the approval of the film’s director. They said they will be flexible and allow David Yates to view shots and ask for adjustments after most of the work has been done.

As far as the rest of the Harry Potter titles going 3D, right now, the studio is staying quiet. But, obviously, that’s the next step. It might just be a little difficult to get approval from all the directors of the earlier films: Chris Columbus, Mike Newell, and Alfonso Cuaron.

So, is this good for the Harry Potter series? Eh, maybe. But honestly, it seems more like a gimmick than an actual attempt to add something to the universe. Harry Potter fans are interested in the world that J.K. Rowling created, not necessarily special effects in the movies (although that doesn’t hurt). Plus, ever since the disaster that was Clash of the Titans, who ever thinks 3D conversion is a good idea?
