Have you ever wondered what happened to Capote director Bennett Miller? You’d think that, after garnering an Oscar nod for his work on the biopic and helping his pal Phillip Seymour Hoffman take one home for his portrayal of the eccentric author, he’d already have made another film since the 2005 release.
As you may or may not already know, Miller is back in business as he gears up for a July start on Moneyball, the long-gestating adaptation of Michael Lewis’ nonfiction book, about the 2002 Oakland Athletics, who were led by general manager Billy Beane to an excellent season despite having the lowest payroll in the Major Leagues. It’s common knowledge that Brad Pitt will play Beane and that Jonah Hill has also landed a role, but today, Variety reports that the director is in talks with Hoffman and Robin Wright to join the drama, as well.
Hoffman would play team manager Art Howe, who frequently clashed with Beane over strategic decisions while Wright would play Beane’s ex-wife. The involvement of these two stellar performers washes the sour taste of Hill’s casting out of my mouth – let’s just hope the studio can lock them in before July.
