The Pollyannas at 20th Century Fox have chosen a rather optimistic release date on The Wolverine, the studio’s sequel to its 2009 comic-book blockbuster X-Men Origins: Wolverine. July 23, 2013, is the day Hugh Jackman‘s adamantium-fortified mutant will return to theaters, sayeth the folks at EW, who count the decision as a sign that Fox is “reasonably confident that the film will start shooting this year.” Given the project’s well-documented history of delays and personnel changes, and the fact that Jackman is headed to Australia next month to begin work on Les Miserables, which should occupy his time for a good while, I’m “reasonably confident” that the release date will change before the year is out.
