‘Hunger Games’ Soundtrack: Listen to Arcade Fire’s “Abraham’s Daughter”

Hunger GamesYou can rest assured that The Hunger Games is getting the mood right: the film is set to feature the new song “Abraham’s Daughter” by the indie rock band Arcade Fire…and nothing screams war-torn dystopia like a good Arcade Fire song. The bleak, riveting new song will play over The Hunger Games‘ credits, marking the second Arcade Fire song to appear in the film (the other being “Horn of Plenty”).

The band apparently took great measures to craft the song to the story of Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and her apocalyptic world. Says frontman Win Butler, “Our whole approach was to get into the world and try to create something that serves the story and the film. There’s something in the story of Abraham and Isaac that I think resonates with the themes in the film, like sacrificing children. So we made a weird, alternate-universe version of that, where it’s as if Abraham had a daughter. Kind of a metaphor for Katniss.”

Arcade Fire is in the company of music artists such as Taylor Swift, Kid Cudi, Maroon 5, Miranda Lambert and The Decemberists on the Hunger Games soundtrack. You can watch Taylor Swift’s music video for The Hunger Games‘ song “Safe and Sound” hereThe Hunger Games opens in theaters March 23.
