‘Inception’ Midnight Shows Conjure 3 Million

InceptionBox office receipts are already tallying up for Warner Bros. ambitious new sci-fi action film Inception. According to our very own box office president, Paul Dergarabedian, the Christopher Nolan directed mind-bender, starring Leonardo DiCaprio as a corporate spy who uses a cutting edge method to raid people’s subconscious for valuable information has already rung up $3 million from last night’s midnight shows alone, an impressive start to what is sure to be a stellar run.

Says Dergarabedian: Let the word-of-mouth begin. With $3 million in midnight screenings Christopher Nolan’s highly-anticipated “Inception” gets off to a start that is certainly no challenge to any of the midnight records, but hopefully will motivate moviegoers to begin the social network chatter that will either make or break the film. With its incredible visual style, plot convolutions and filmmaking pedigree, “Inception” is the stuff from which advanced film school courses are made. Weekend projections put the mind-blowing film in the $50 plus million range.

Having seen the film earlier in the week, I can say that it has all of the elements that make summer popcorn blockbusters the lucrative crowd-pleasers that they are and, in a season marked by less-than-spectacular films and straight-up bombs, Inception is poised to wreak havoc on American multiplexes.
