‘Iron Man 3’: James Badge Dale — Robot!

TheAvengers.651x113.jpg

JBD In The Grey, he was cold. In The Departed, he was bloody. And in Iron Man 3…he’ll be both. James Badge Dale is joining the forthcoming Marvel film as Eric Savin, a character who (in the comics, anyway) goes on to be the cyborg Coldblood. If that wordplay doesn’t grab you, then you might as well just sign off here. Kidding!

Shame star Dale, who is also involved in three other talked about projects on the horizon (The Lone Ranger, World War Z and Flight) is bumping up his spotlight merit even further with a position in the cast of the third Tony Stark film. The story will focus on the outbreak of the Extremis nanotechnology virus, which was introduced in the Iron Man comic book series.

Dale is one of several new players, including Ben Kingsley (who is playing an as of yet unspecified villainous role) and Rebecca Hall (a scientist who plays a part in the creation of the virus). As Coldblood is not present in the Iron Man: Extremis arc, the film will also draw from other stories in the history of Tony Stark.

Robert Downey, Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow (with an amped up role) and Don Cheadle are all on board for the film. Sadly, Scarlett Johansson is out.
