Tuesday Daily Box Office Rally
First Place – Paramount’s ‘Paranormal Activity 2’ – A bigger-than-expected weekend debut of $40.7 million allowed this horror franchise to avoid the dreaded sophomore slump. A solid Tuesday gross of $2.2 brings the domestic total after just five days to $45.3 million. The IMAX experience contributed a strong $2.5 million to the opening weekend total.
Second Place – Paramount’s ‘Jackass 3D’ – The ‘Jackass’ crew continues to cough up strong numbers with a Tuesday gross of $1.7 million. The film has now earned $90.4 million after just twelve days of release. Johnny Knoxville and company have elevated gross-out humor to high art and now to high finance!
Third Place – Summit’s ‘Red’ – Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Mary-Louise Parker, Helen Mirren and Richard Dreyfus round out a very diverse, though somewhat unconventional action film cast and earn $1.3 million on Tuesday. The film has now earned $45.9 million after twelve days in release and this past weekend had a very small 31% drop.
