Jam Master Jay’s Murder Officially Dubbed Cold Case

The murder of late rap icon Jam Master Jay has officially been ruled a cold case, 15 years after his death.

The Run-D.M.C. DJ, real name Jason Mizell, was gunned down in a Queens, New York recording studio on 30 October, 2002, but the investigation into his murder has failed to produce any charges.

Officials at the New York Police Department have not uncovered any new leads in the case in years, prompting bosses to now label the tragedy a cold case, meaning the criminal investigation will remain open, but will only become active if new evidence turns up, reports The Associated Press.

Despite the news, which emerged just before the 15th anniversary of the hip-hop legend’s untimely demise on Monday (30Oct17), Mizell’s close friends and family remain hopeful of a break in the near future.

“It’s not resolved to the legal eye, but the street always talks,” family friend Jeremy ‘JL’ Lam told the outlet.
