James Hong, a veteran character actor best known for his turn as Dr. Chew in the sci-fi classic Blade Runner, has joined the cast of the supernatural action flick R.I.P.D., THR reports. Hong will play an avatar, or digital alter-ego, to star Ryan Reynolds‘ character, a murdered cop who goes to work for the Rest in Peace Department, a force dedicated to rounding up spirits of the deceased who are unwilling to leave the physical world.
R.I.P.D. also stars Jeff Bridges, Marisa Miller, and Kevin Bacon, and is directed by Robert Schwentke (The Time Traveler’s Wife). The film is currently slated for a June 28, 2013, release.
