Yep, we’re bringing back the face palm. What could possibly be worthy of a quick slap to the head? How about so fundamentally not understanding a character, you take away the primary thing that made the character interesting in the first place? Seems worthy enough of a face palm for me.
So take Miss Marple. A lovable elderly lady who spins her free time knitting… and solving crime. Yep, no one assumes her capable, because of her age, which allows her to get by unnoticed. So what do they do with the revamp? Make her YOUNGER. And attach Jennifer Garner. Now look, this has nothing to do with Garner, as she’s a decent actress, this is all about how stupid of an idea this is. It would be like taking Sherlock Holmes and making him a beekeeper. Yes, he is still Holmes and a well rounded character, but the central hook of the character is gone. They’ve taken the soul out of the character to make it more appealing. Old women are awesome, who wouldn’t want to watch an old lady kick some ass? That would be epic and hilarious. Did they not think Betty White would still be around?
Seriously, I bet they didn’t even think of Betty White. She would’ve made Agatha Christie proud.
