Dreamgirls star Jennifer Hudson is to be honored with a best newcomer award at the 18th Palm Springs International Film Festival in the New Year.
The former American Idol contestant will receive the Breakthrough Performance award at the event, following the nomination for a Golden Globe for her performance as Effie in new movie Dreamgirls.
Cate Blanchett will also receive an award for career achievement at the California-based festival, which runs from Jan. 4-15 next year.
