Jeremy Irons Makes A ‘Margin Call’

ALTIt looks like at least one good thing is coming out of the financial crisis. Margin Call, a film that follows eight wall-street businesspeople for the 24 hours leading up to the 2008 crash, has just added a new actor to its star-studded cast. Jeremy Irons has signed on to play the chief executive of a financial firm, joining an already superb cast that includes Demi Moore, Paul Bettany, Kevin Spacey, Zachary Quinto, Stanley Tucci, Mary McDonnell, Penn Badgley, and Simon Baker. The sheer quantity of talent in this film is astounding, especially for a small independent production from second-time director JC Chandor (his previous effort is the little seen short film Despacito, with Will Arnett). Usually when you get one or two name actors in an indie film like this, it’s a sign that they want to get some dramatic street cred, or that the director is their nephew, but with this much talent, it’s probably (hopefully) a sign of a strong script and quality direction.

Margin Call was written by Chandor, and is being produced through Quinto’s production company, Before The Door Pictures. Benaroya Pictures is also producing, with Myriad Pictures’ CEO Kirk D’Amico executive producing. The film has been shooting for 3 weeks in New York, probably to capture that extra authentic Wall Street desperation.
