Awesome Alert: Jeremy Jordan Joins Anna Kendrick in ‘The Last 5 Years’

Jeremy Jordan

Be still our Broadway-loving hearts! It looks like Jeremy Jordan is trying to master as many entertainment mediums as possible — and honestly, we’re not mad at it. The actor’s next IMDB credit has just been announced and it’s sure to be a very unique cinematic adventure.

According to Deadline, Jordan will star opposite Anna Kendrick in the upcoming film, The Last 5 Years. The Smash actor will play Jamie, an on-the-rise novelist who falls for struggling-singer Cathy (Kendrick). But here’s where it gets interesting: the movie will use opposite timelines to unveil the couple’s relationship.

Over the course of five years, Jamie’s story is told in chronological order, while Cathy’s journey through the relationship is depicted in the reverse, i.e. from the end to the beginning. In a cinematic world that is filled with countless superhero remakes, fairytale adaptations, and overly-dramatic Nicholas Sparks sob-fests, this has the potential to be a refreshing and invigorating movie-going experience.

The Last 5 Years is an adaptation of Jason Robert Brown’s award winning off-Broadway musical, and will be directed by Beautiful Creature’s Richard LaGravenese. Both stars are Broadway veterans with a Tony Award nomination each — Jordan in 2012 for his lead role in The Newsies and Kendrick in 1998 for her featured role in High Society — so it’s a nice tip of the hat that these two experienced actors will be leading the story from the stage to the silver screen.
