Jim Carrey’s 10 Funniest Movie Moments

New Line Cinema/Everett Collection
It's partially the brilliance of the joke's construction — Harry choking Lloyd for hording two pairs of gloves during their frostbitten camp-out in the Colorado woods, Lloyd complaining mid-strangling that Harry's hands are freezing — that makes this one of the best jokes in all of Dumb & Dumber, and it's partially Carrey's expertly agonized yet gleeful delivery.

9. Performing as Tony Clifton in 'Man on the Moon'

Admittedly, this one might not be "laugh out loud" funny, but Carrey's commitment to the absurdly disgusting Tony Clifton role (himself a construction of Carrey's character Andy Kaufman in this biopic) is nothing short of admirable.

8. The Sliding Glass Door Scene in 'Ace Ventura: Pet Detective'
8. The Sliding Glass Door Scene in 'Ace Ventura: Pet Detective'
Warner Bros/ Everett Collection
Never could a man command so much laughter with a single syllable: "AHHHHHHHHHH!" With that scene, private detective Ace Ventura solved the case of the kidnapped dolphin, and earned the biggest laugh in his first of two feature films.

7. Running from the Cops in 'I Love You Phillip Morris'

Everett Collection
Not one that will spring immediately to mind when considering Carrey's funniest movies, but I Love You Phillip Morris offers a comically brilliant telephone conversation between Carrey and wife Leslie Mann while the former is on the run (literally) from the police after committing a few heavy felonies.

6. The "Big Gulps, Huh?" Scene from 'Dumb & Dumber'
6. The "Big Gulps, Huh?" Scene from 'Dumb & Dumber'
New Line Cinema
What is it about this scene? This bizarre, perplexing non sequitur, planted smack dab in the middle of this mad road comedy, makes absolutely no sense in any context. But thanks to Carrey's affably clueless performance, it is bewilderingly hilarious.

5. Getting Speared in the Legs in 'When Nature Calls'

Morgan Creek Productions
Some might call violence a cheap ground for humor, but physical comedians like Carrey can turn an easy gag into something masterfully crafted. When Ace Ventura suffers a spear to one quad (and then a second spear to his other quad) during a duel with an African tribesman in When Nature Calls, the laughs are in no short supply.

4. Performing Karaoke in 'The Cable Guy'
4. Performing Karaoke in 'The Cable Guy'
Columbia Pictures
The musical stylings of Grace Slick and Jefferson Airplane were never farmed for their humor... before Carrey found himself transforming "Somebody to Love" into a haunting comedic symphony in The Cable Guy. When he starts playing percussion on his Adam's Apple, that's when you really lose it.

3. Singing "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" in 'When Nature Calls'
3. Singing "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" in 'When Nature Calls'
Morgan Creek Productions
Another musical number, but this one even more outlandish and zany (and without even the benefit of a karaoke machine). A delightfully bonkers Ace Ventura drives his jeep off the road and through the African jungle, spitting out the lyrics to "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" as his passenger trembles in fear. The way Carrey contorts his face in this scene is nothing short of genius.

2. The Blooper Reel from 'Liar Liar'
2. The Blooper Reel from 'Liar Liar'
Universal Pictures
It's appropriate that some of Carrey's best schtick on the big screen came in the form of a blooper real. Liar Liar attached an enormously satisfying pick of outtakes as the credits rolled, with Carrey demonstrating his skills at mime, his penchant for ad-libbing, and an unknown proclivity for origami. ("A goose!")

Morgan Creek Productions
And finally, yet another gem from When Nature Calls, and perhaps the funniest movie scene from the 1990s altogether: Ace Ventura emerging from the backside of an artificial rhinoceros. It's silly, some would say stupid, and highly childish. But dammit if this isn't an art.
