Movie mogul Joel Silver has struck a deal with toymakers Mattel to turn He-Man and the Masters of the Universe into a new film franchise.
Mattel bosses, who created the He-Man action figure in the 1980s and created a cult cartoon series to help sell the dolls, attempted to turn the concept into a movie in 1987 but their Masters of the Universe film was a critical flop.
An attempt to turn the toy concept into a second film, directed by John Woo, fell flat in 2000 when Mattel refused to give permission for Fox studio executives to use their brand.
