Johansson, Adams, Winstead, Or McAdams May Lead ‘We Bought a Zoo’

ALT TEXT

Man, being a Hollywood director must be tough. (*sarcasm*)

Cameron Crowe is trying to find his female lead to star opposite Matt Damon in the upcoming film We Bought a Zoo. So how’s he handling it? Why, of course, doing the logical thing and having four extremely beautiful and talented ladies read for the role, duh!

Scarlett Johansson, Amy Adams, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Rachel McAdams are all in the mix, but Deadline reports that Johansson is the top contender.

We Bought a Zoo was written by Crowe and Aline Brosh McKenna and is based on Benjamin Mee’s memoir about when he used his entire life savings to move to the English countryside, buy a zoo, and operate it.

Even though Johansson is the top choice for this film, I’d rather see McAdams take the role. She’s extremely talented and versatile (and gorgeous!) and her career is in need of a defining performance. Don’t get me wrong, I think she’s a solid actress. But when you review her brief filmography there’s nothing phenomenal that sticks out. Her most trying role might actually be from the 2005 hit The Notebook, meaning she needs something current. With Crowe directing and working opposite Damon, I could see her giving her best performance yet – one that takes her career to the next level.
