John Cusack to Produce Rush Limbaugh Film?

John CusackWith all the focus on the influences within the current political divide in the US, it seems inevitable that a film about controversial and hugely popular conservative personality, Rush Limbaugh, would be the focus of cinematic attention at some point. And the man to take him on? John Cusack. Yes, Cusack wants to tackle talk radio. At least…in film. The man also known as Lloyd Dobler is reportedly attached to a film about mega-famous talk radio host Rush Limbaugh, according to Deadline.

The announcement comes in a statement from the production company, stating: “New Crime Productions and John Cusack are currently considering a project about the larger-than-life radio personality, Rush Limbaugh. Betty Thomas, who covered similar terrain in her portrait of Howard Stern, is interested in directing. The script would explore the rise and reinvention of American Talk Radio, and Limbaugh’s continued influence and impact over the last three decades in that world.”

Cusack would apparently play the man Limbaugh himself. The feature mentioned as helmed by Thomas is 1997’s Stern biopic Private Parts. A fairly vocal liberal and regular critic of President George W. Bush’s former administration, Cusack is not looking to make the film a liberal vs. conservative boxing match. First news of the film popped up at the end of last week, when Thomas told the Associated Press that the film only required “finishing touches” before its inevitable production next year.
