Johnny Depp Is Not in Wes Anderson’s Upcoming ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’

Wes Anderson The Grand Budapest HotelWell, thanks for breaking our movie-loving hearts, Wes Anderson. The wonderfully eclectic director has murdered joy by refuting reports that quirky wonderperson Johnny Depp would be starring in his upcoming film, The Grand Budapest Hotel.

In an interview with The Huffington Post, Anderson explains how the rumors came to be: “You know, the Internet has a way of announcing things on its own [laughs]. You will find that even though I’m very aware of the cast that has been announced on its own devices, you’ll never find me saying who’s in the movie. Or, as far as I know, anybody else. I really don’t know where it all comes from. In fact, Johnny is somebody who I would love to work with at some point, but he’s not going to be in this movie.”

So much for all our character ideas! Harumph. And while movie fans sigh at the prospect of waiting even longer for the destined-to-work-together (we hope!) duo, Anderson did confirm one bit of casting news: Bill Murray will star in The Grand Budapest Hotel.

And that noise–that utter silence and indifference–my friends, is what 7 billion people (and probably a couple aliens in outer-space if you’re into believing that sort of thing) being completely unsurprised by something sounds like. Regardless, “we have quite a great cast,” Anderson asserts. We just have to wait a bit longer to get the information of who these greats are: in the meantime, I think mourning the loss of a potential Depp/Anderson team-up is allowed.
